Hi all.

I'm looking to replace my aging q-jet. Its not running so well these days, and I am really tired of opening it up to make tuning changes.
My cars race weight is 3200 lbs

Things I'd like in a carb:

Clear sight plugs
Adjustable primary and secondary metering bodies
It'd be nice to have externally adjustable metering plates, like the Percy's Adjust-A-Jet. Do any carbs come with these?
vacuum secondaries adjustable without changing a spring

Based on these features that I wanted, I was looking at the Quick Fuel SS series and the Quick Fuel HR series. Do you think I will need the SS series? Does the HR have annealer boosters? The HR is 100 dollars cheaper. Do I need annealear boosters? It seems like they would be more efficient on fuel and make more power.

So here's my current engine build - I was hoping for a recommendation on CFM.
355, revs to 5500-6000.
xe268h-10
Performer RPM Air Gap,
2.5 inch Dual exhaust with Jegs turbo mufflers (planning to move to 3 inch and hooker aerochambers this summer)

Thoughts? I haven't really looked at any other companies than Quick Fuel.

all you will most likely need would be a 650cfm. if you have an auto trans get vac secondaries

I would say 650cfm also. Im running a650 on my 355, 9.8:1 cr, alum dart heads (64cc comb, 180cc int), pretty much the same rpm range maxing at 6000. 700r4 with 1800-2000 stall n 3.73:1 gears. Using vac secondaries too. Tried a 750 n seemed to b too big

What compression, heads, converter and gear are you running?

9.8:1, vortec heads, curently 2.23 rear gear. I'm looking to go to 3.50 rear gear.

I was thinking about doing a larger carb, like a 780 vacuum secondary, and annular boosters in the primaries. From what I've been reading this is a good combo. I don't want to lose a bunch of power on the top end. Quick fuel makes a nice 780. I was thinking of getting the 780, and if i'm not happy with it, I could change the main body. I think I might give quick fuel a call. I've been reading a lot of dyno shootouts, and 650's never seem to make as much power as 750's. I'm more concerned with power above 2000 RPM than i am with idle and off-idle quality.

Why is it that it seems like Holleys with similar features are priced higher than Quick Fuels? Am I missing something? :S

what are you trying to do with the car? you will be surprised with what the carb manufacturers may tell you

Run 12's an still drive it to work. I've gone a best of 13.2 with my old quadrajet but im really tired of opening that thing up. I've got a dual-plane manifold and I've always read that a dual plane should have carb sized 100cfm bigger than a single plane. so for single plane, like a 650, but 750 for a dual plane

I'm still thinking 650. Too much carb can hurt

From what i've been reading, I'm looking at the QuickFuel 680 Vacuum Secondary. I think it'll be good.
