Looking for help decoding my cowl tag and vin manly looking for options it came from the factory with as it's been striped and trying to find parts and stuff to put It all back together
That's most of what I was looking for from that tag is there some other way to find out what options it would of came with originally like pules wiper or non pulse wether the switch should be on the column or on the dash stuff like that or is this all the info I'll find from the vin and that tagIf I'm remember about the first thing on the Fisher Body plate, D 03E is the date code for when it was built. The 1GW80 is the model code, R is the assembly plant Arlington, Tx & 150415 is the unit number for production. 77B is for your interior which is dark maple. 78L 78U L is the exterior color for dark autumn maple metalic with xxL for the lower section color, xxU for upper section color, L for lacquer paint. A65 is for the seat, a 60/40 split bench. The last line is something for the assembly plant. For the VIN, it follows the GM truck format which includes things light brake weight class, year, engine, assembly plant.
Info like that would be found on the SPID sticker that the later (think '84 & newer) models would have. A build sheet, if one was left in the car somewhere would be the best way you could find that info for '83 & older. As for switch location, it is a model year thing as only '78-'81 models had the dash mounted wiper switch & won't have an RPO for location. That's most of what I was looking for from that tag is there some other way to find out what options it would of came with originally like pules wiper or non pulse wether the switch should be on the column or on the dash stuff like that or is this all the info I'll find from the vin and that tag
Ok so basically without a build sheet no real way of knowing what it came stock with for options and would it include like the delay or non delay side of the wipers not the switch or is there a way to tell them apart just from the moters I got a lot of the wiring figured but I seem to have no connections for wiper controls so trying to figure out what I need to make them work or even if there was some kind of retro fit or easyish way to get them workingInfo like that would be found on the SPID sticker that the later (think '84 & newer) models would have. Ya I'm getting that so is there some other thing I might be able to find on the car to identify any of that stuff and if so ware might I find it with the interior gutted I'm assuming not much left for me to findNot much info can be gathered from the body tag on a G-body.
To break it down a little further: D is for 1983 model year. The 03E means the TPW (target production week) the 5th week of March. TPW's were met 99% of the time because they usually didn't sequence them until they were ready for production.
1 is for Chevrolet, G was for, G-body series. and W80 is for El Camino truck body.
SPIDs didn't come into full use across the board until 1984, unfortunately. Pulse wipers would be RPO CD4.
