Looking for new Engine Harness

Looking for NEW engine harness for 87 SS Monte. I'm done trying to keep this dried out, brittle POS with all the connectors broken and has been hacked apart by multiple people. Going to just start over with a new one. Anyone get a line on a decent one that isn't stupid expensive? I found the below one with the bulkhead connector from GBodyparts.com (part no 109030) but hoping I can find something that's not $1300. Ideally looking for elec cooling fan connectors as well.

99% of those engine related connectors are available in pigtails from Delco and other vendors. You can prolly buy all the right TXL/SXL wiring you need as well and just rebuild it yourself from the bulkhead C100 connector out, and the ECM connectors out.

It's a lot of tedious work, (hence why they're not cheap to buy) but totally doable if you have the time and skill.

Materials might cost in the several hundreds of $$ but you can at least customize it to exactly what you need in the process.

Definitely try to get factory service manual so you have the wiring diagrams if you're not able to just use the old harness as your guide.

Lookup oldsofb in this forum, he's a wiz at the rewiring and rebuilding of his 442 project harnesses. He recently posted a few great videos too on his YouTube.

I'm sure he'll chime in here with some useful tips and info. Granted he's not using the CCC computer/harness but his knowledge sharing on the subject is second to none.

Link to vendor I've used before, they're excellent IMHO...but there are lots of others.

Getting a factory Shop Manual is key I would say.

Starting with a good, mostly unmolested harness helps too.

If you're just rebuilding a stock harness, then it's nothing more than unpinning connectors, cutting and stripping wires to the correct lengths, and crimping terminals. Materials cost me over $470 alone.

Check with a Monte SS exclusive web forum as well. Someone has to have done this before. There may be a Painless Wiring harness that has all the same circuits. Chevy seems to always have the aftermarket on their side.

The electrical part of the manual. What I mean is, any service manual set (CSMs) from Helm is great. But some cars have separate electrical manuals, while others have it included, like the 87 Cutlass Supreme CSM. Make sure to get the electrical part if not included.

I agree. Don't just buy a harness that's not SPECIFIC FOR YOUR CAR. Sensors, and other plugs can be and are different from car to car. While most may line up, some won't, and then you will then have to modify that expensive harness anyway to meet your goals.

If you get terminals and such and/or start modifying junk, get some de-termination tools, as you'll be miles ahead if you do. Makes quicker work out of a tedious process.

At times it's good to get cores to keep on hand for doner circuits as certain connectors are not as common like the molded ones used with the oil pressure switches & senders. As noted get those for a L69 or LG4 305 as the wires will be the required lenth & for '84 to '88 cars but be aware of production differences like how the alternator wires are ran. Invest in depinning tools & good crimpers for OE type terminals incase some needs replaced. Here's s few sources that may be helpful on rebuilding your harness.

 
The CCC system varies a lot from year to year, make, model, sub model, and options. 87 is particularly unique with its more advanced Evap system.

It's still basically all weatherpack and metripack style connectors, so sourcing them with terminals or as pigtails should be pretty easy.

You should be able to as long as you follow the right template for your car. In 87 they charged some of the connectors to different designs from the previous model years for MC.
