Well, I am starting to think I may see a dim light at the end of my long tunnel, and my thoughts have now turned to the stereo. I have the rare "Concert Sound II" setup from a Buick Regal for my Cutlass which uses 5.25 in door speakers and tweeters in the 3.5 in dash locations. My plans are for 5.25 in door speakers and 1 in tweeters under the stock grilles in the dash. I want to use a component setup and am curious who makes the best sounding speakers without blowing the budget. I have seen some that looked good on E-Bay for around $100-150 ( Mb Quart), and would like to keep in that range. ( I already have 3 Alpine amps totaling almost 1,000 watts, an Alpine CD player, 2 old "Cobalt by Orion" 10 in subs in a 5th order box, and Pioneer 3 way 6x9's with adapters I will be using)
I am also thinking about sound deadening. My factory stuff is long gone, a victim of moisture and mold. ( The smell was awful) I was thinking of using something like Dynamat on the bottom and factory-style jute on top with an aluminum foil heat shield built in. Once again, E-Bay has piqued my curiosity as I see "Fatmat" being advertised as a Dynamat substitute for substantially less money (100 sq ft for $130 with shipping). Has anyone here used it? I am on a fairly tight budget as I still have lots to buy, but want to get the best bang for my buck as I do not want to have to do this step again.
