So i bought a cheap engine with the idea of rebuilding it, i was hoping it was a 350 but when i got the casting number and the suffix/partial vin im thinking its a 307 casting=3970020 and the number on the front was 12w138183 v0914ckh. the ckh is what makes me think its not a 350 but the 12w138183 is confusing me some...any one know for sure, i looked online and im getting frustrated so i figured id ask?

Looks like ckh could correspond to either. However the casting number dictates it is a 307.

I had the same delemma when I built my motor, the casting number on the back is the same as yours, the vin tag on the passenger side of the block in the front says it's a early '70's 307 as well. Took the heads off and it's a perfect 4" bore. There's no way a 307 can be punched out to a 350, and a 327 has a 4" bore as well so I still have no idea. All I care about is that it was in fact a 4" bore, and definetly a 350 crank.

Yeah im just really curious and i like to just make sure that its not a 350. either way is ok though since i dont want uber amounts of hp any way. when i get it home ill find out for sure, either way only paid 50 bucks for it

eventually i will and if your come to this site often enough ill post what i find here on this thread
