So I went for a drive to check air conditioning after charging it and halfway back I lose power steering. Not sure whats going on. It's full of fluid, belts still on, and don't hear any noise. Anyone got some ideas? The pump is a reman and both hoses are brand new

I went back out just now after the car cooled down. I started it and the power steering was working for about 30 seconds then it started getting harder to turn. I turned off my ac because the compressor is noisy and now hear a light groaning or hissing sound from power steering pump when I turn the wheels. Is this a pump issue or box issue?

I'd almost say pump, but not being there and hearing it... did it start getting harder after a full turn to either side? could be a sticking overpressure valve....

edit: TURNA just went through this on his malibu IIRC... hopefully he'll chime in

Did you by chance take the fitting off the back of the pump and maybe move the oring into the wrong groove. I did that by mistake a while back and it caused the same problem you are having. Once I realized the issue and moved it to the correct groove all was back to working fine.

what groove are you talking about?

See my post HERE WE GO AGAIN.

Had same issue when I installed everything new.... put the old box back in and everything worked fine.

Apparently GM used different valves in the pumps matched to the steering box.
