I am on the fence about lowering the G Body when i get one. What would be the best way to do that? lowering springs or drop spindles? I will be looking to put 245/45R17 in front and possibly 255's on the rear. What would be the most I should lower it with out having to major modifications to the car.

I'm going to say 2-2 1/2" in the front with that size tire; rear shouldn't be a problem to match. I did my front for about $600 which included the Blazer brakes and 2" drop spindles. You are limited by the inner fender well to about a 26" tire. It will rub on full compression at the top of the well. It really depends on how and how often you drive the car as well as what limitations you are willing to tolerate (mine is a DD, so I want full travel).

I will treat mine as a DD as far as that is concerned. I was also looking at the UMI C5 brake conversion. Not sure if that changes anything.

The C5 brakes should only affect your rim size, but you're already at 17, so as long as those clear....
Here's my combo:
Belltech 2" drop spindles for 99-04 Blazer
Powerstop pad and rotor package
Reman Blazer calipers
Moog 5662 springs
KYB Excel G shocks
Spohn steering linkage and ball joints
Moog poly end links
Eventually, I want to drop down to a 245/50-16 which is almost an inch shorter, then I can do the tall lower ball joints for another 1/2-3/4" drop. I may step up to the 5664 springs which are about 50lbs stiffer, as well. Pics on the first page of my build thread- click the link in my sig.

Nice. I have that size tire on my Camaro currently.

Lowering is mainly for looks. If you also would like it to handle it's best to handle both items at the same time. Drop spindles will only lower it and not effect handling very much besides center of gravity of course. I suggest lowering springs. They will drop it and also be stiffer to help the car handle better.

I recently did the 2" drop spindles and 1.5" drop rear springs (BMR) on my Camino. Rides firm but not too harsh and handles well. I'm running 18x9.5 rear with 255/40/18 tires and front is 18x8 with 245/40/18 tires. Only rubs when I hit a good bump but not when turning the wheel in either direction.
