Akron, Oh.
Hey guys, can someone please inform me on how they find ls series engines on craigslist for so cheap? I've been keeping an eye out and folks still want around 1500 for a lq9 motor.

Theres really no technique to finding a cheap engine lol. The only thing you can do is keep on looking.

lq9s are not the typical motor you will find for under 1500... I just picked up another motor for my bros SS and we got a great deal with very low mileage and it was exactly what he wanted, but thats because I knew the guy...

you have to be on CL everyday and often twice a day and be ready with cash on hand, so you dont miss out when you find it. if you were going to leave the motor stock, then I would go with the lq9, if you are going to do anything, swap heads, intake, cam/springs, etc. then look for any of them lq4 or whatever... also dont under estimate the 5.3s, those are the ones you can find all day long and for cheap. An lq9 is worth 1500 with low miles (at least thats what i would be willing to pay up to)

Probably has to do with the area they live in. I've been searching for those LS engines too but not only are they not dirt cheap, they're not even there half the time. There's basically nothing on craigslist in my area.

I'd check online salvage yard inventories. I rarely see them on craigslist in my area but they are all over the internet within a 100 or 200 miles from me for cheap.

I think you guys are right in saying its the area. I've been on the hunt faithfully for the past 6 months and can't find anything. I would love to find one at pullapart for around 300 bucks. Does anyone know What vehicles those engines came in?

the lq9 only came in the escalades 02-present, and the 04 silverado ss. the lq4 comes with 300-325hp/335-370tq, and the lq9 is rated at 345hp/380tq

You might try and work it the other way....

Post a want to buy ad in the auto parts for sale section on craigslist. I don't think I'd say, 'I only want an LQ9 with low miles for $300'...but something along the lines of 'looking for 5.3 or 6.0 LS motor from late Chevy truck/SUV for project have money please call before the wife finds this ad!!!'

Lots of people will respond to ads that will not post them....

and ground can be gained by using a simple cam and spring kit, amonst other minor changes
