My buddy just brought a 2000 Camaro Z28 that has been totaled, for front end damage. But it has a good LS1 engine and transmission, being the reason he brought the car. He is going to put the LS1 in his 240 S13.

We removed the LS1 and transmission on Sunday. And I will be helping him strip the car. So I get my picking at my parts I want off the car before he starts posting parts for sell.

I already claim the LSD, Rear Disc Brakes, and Front Brakes.

But I already have the 98+ blazer front brake setup. And been doing some research and they said its not worth going LS1 if u alrdy have the blazer setup. BUT the ones I found who did make the swap agree the LS1 brakes are noticeably better then the blazer setup.

But there is a kit for the blazer spindle if u go C5 brake (13 inch rotor). And I looked into C5 brakes and thats not in my plans right now.

So what I am getting at is. Should I go LS1 or keep the Blazer setup?

Blazer Front Brakes: Cast Iron Dual Piston Caliper, Sealed Bearing, 11 rotor.

LS1 Front Brakes: Aluminum Dual Piston Caliper, Use existing Gbody Spindle, 12 rotor.

I'm really leaning to just removing the Blazer setup. And going with the LS1 brake setup. And selling the blazer setup. Im all about cuting weight on the front end and gaining performance. So I figure it would drop 5lbs on each side vs the blazer setup. But I would weigh them too support the weight loss theory. The parts are free. Altho I would have to buy some gbody spindle from the junk yard. And I would need the LS1 caliper bracket. But that doesnt bother me. Give me something to do.

***edit: if anyone was wondering. I would have to make a custom bracket to go LS1 with the blazer spindle. Much easier to go LS1 brake with gbody spindle. But there is a kit for going C5 with blazer setup.

i looked at your car domain and i saw your wheels arent paticularly big and i hear some people have serious issues finding wheels that fit around the size of he calipers on the modern fbodies, something to think about

Yep, wheel selection is crucial with at least the C5 stuff. Most of the wheels that American Racing sells will not work with a C5 rotor or caliper. However the smaller LS1 setup should be okay.

I had the C5 setup on the front of my '87 but found out quickly that 17" TTII style rims will not clear these. That backside of the spokes hit the face of the caliper and the diameter of the wheel was a problem even though it was a 17. The problem lies in that AR has a 1/2" step inside the diameter of the wheel that gives you less brake clearance.

For the time being I had to use an LS1 12" front rotor with another bracket that moved the C5 caliper down to work. It's a temporary fix until I get proper wheels.
