My grandpa has a firebird with an lt-1 that has sat for 9 years that he was saving for a motor for his 99 tahoe. His tahoe has a 350 vortech , and I am pretty sure they are not the same engine. I was thinking about asking his for it because my 350 needs a COMPLETE block and heads rebuild. (long story short, the miracle hp first gen 350 he gave me did not live up to be what he said it was, and has excessive blowby (could be rings, pistons, the block itself), and 80 pounds of compression in the best cylinder, and 10 pounds in two cylendars. (probably combo of head gaskets and bent/burt valves).

SO I have a few of questions:

1. is the lt-1 and the 350 vortech compatible for his tahoe?
2. Can i take my distributor, (get lt-1 compatible intake), my edlebrach carborator, and all the accessories for my 350 and bolt it up to the lt-1 and have a functioning vehicle?
3. how much damage do you think the lt-1 could have taken for having sat 9 years with no hood in the firebird. (I am in florida remember)

It depends on what his plans are for the LT1; if he wants to swap the LT1 into the Tahoe & redo the wiring then it can be done. But if his plans are to use the block & heads & put his accessories & intake from the Tahoe onto it then no it will not work.

he thinks he can just put it in there and start it up. it's just a back-up motor for the tahoe, the tahoe doesnt immediatly need a motor or anything.

Answers:
1. Not directly interchangeable. Major wiring and minor plumbing will be necessary.
2. Yes. There are LT1 intakes that allow the use of conventional distributors. There is an oil pump drive under the intake driven by the cam. A conventional distributor replaces that. You will also need a block-off plate for the Optispark that will be removed.
3. If it was exposed to the Florida weather/humidity I would consider it a core at best.

yeah your probably right. 9 years on that motor in the sun/rain couldnt have been good for it. oh well. guess my car is just gunna sit longer until i find a motor. :/ thanks for the help guys.
