wow, just the question i needed answered. what mounts are you using?? i dont want to knotch my frame for the alternator. i'm preping an 81 malibu for a 95 lt1 transplant as we speak. any pictures?

If you already have the LT1 handy thats a great idea, however I wouldn't go searching for one. the LS1 is far superior or even a 5.3 out of a chevy truck (300hp and near 20mpg) would be a good choice. LT1's are great but aren't much more powerfull than an L98 (easier to convert to since they are OBD1) the biggest problems with LT1 are the Optispark ignitions. Some have had good luck and never had to replace it, other have nightmares about them every night. Either way good luck with the swap and I'm sure it will be a screamer no matter what you choose.

LS1's and all other LS series motors are fantasic engines, but don't sell the LT1 short, it is quite an impressive engine itself.

'93-'95 are OBD1. '96-'97 are OBD2.

Opti-spark issues have been pretty much remedied, and MSD now offers a replacement as well. In '96, they added a vent/weep hole to prevent moisture build up. Mine got SOAKED with anti-freeze at about 40K when my waterpump failed, and there is 119K on it now and it still works perfectly.

Sounds like a fun project either way!
