Manual steering woes.....

I bought a manual steer box from a Guy that got it out of a s10. p/n 7843962 bolted in perfect (4 bolt cover).. he had the box in a 2nd Gen camaro....along with the pitman arm. Now the problem is, my stock pitman arm will NOT fit the s10 box and the camaro arm is flat. The power steering splines hole is .990" and the camaro arm is 1.10" any suggestions?

Stock S10 arm? My understanding is that Gbody and S10 front end parts are either the same or very similar depending on part/year. I'm sure someone will set us straight if I'm wrong.

From what I understand, the stock S10 manual pitman arm can be used on the G-body car. I believe the pitman arm from a Saginaw 605 box will fit the splines of the manual box and therefore a direct replacement.
The pitman arm from an 800 series box will not fit.

OK here we go...for now.

my Malibu is an 81 and had a 605 steering (power) box on it. that pitman arm does not fit the 4 bolt cover s10 manual box. From what I've read, there is an older 3 bolt cover manual s10 box and those will (pitman arms) interchange with the 605 box. I do not know when they stopped putting the 605 box on the gbodys but my buddy's 87 Monte Carlo has a different (from the 605) power steering gear box in it. maybe the 800 style?
so I will try and track a 800 pitman arm tomorrow and see if it fits the 4 bolt cover s10 box.

I got a s-10 box... never changed the pitman arm. honestly couldnt get it off and it was the same as the g-body so i never changed it.

Ill check to see what box I got but I believe it was out of an 85 s-10 if that helps you at all.

a picture of the box (3 or 4 bolt cover) and a p/n of the pitman arm would work wonders.

I've got hours of internet research into this with no strong leads.

BTW the pitman arm on the manual box was for an f body.

OK just going to complete this thread...

3 bolt cover manual steer box spline should be the same as a 605 and 525 power steering box.

I know for a fact the 605 pitman arm will not fit the 4 bolt cover s10 manual steering box.

I pulled my arm off a s10 power steering box with a 92 cast on it. This will for sure fit my 4 bolt box.

Moral of the story, buy the box with the arm it will save you a hastle.
