Been having trouble for a while now getting a good hard brake pedal in my 81 regal with a 350 chevy in it.ive heard a little bit about running a bigger master cylinder off a f body or b body.would using the large cast iron master off a late 70s firebird or t/a be suitable.also would my stock brake lines hook right up with no problems.can i use the original brake booster or would i have to swap that out too.

That brakes are you running front and rear?

Here are some common issues with g-bodies
The master cylinder was not bench bled or was not bled completely.
Defective rebuilt master cylinder with pitted cylinder bore or defective pressure seals.
Low drag metric calipers without the use of a quick take up (step bore) master cylinder.
Rear drum brake NOT adjusted improperly.

Try changing the booster first to a double diaphram unit. Owned my car for 14 years was fighting the same thing till just the other week i put the double diaphram unit on. Its from the police package malibu if that helps. Wish i would have figured this out years ago.

I have been using a dual diaphram booster from a B body on my car for a couple of years. By itself, it made an immediate improvement in pedal effort. Along with the double diaphram benefit, the diameter of the booster is larger than a Cutlass booster. You need the plunger rod from the donor B body to make it work with a Gbody master cylinder. Since that swap I've done the blazer front and rear disk conversion. Now the car stops very well.....the way GM should have built the 442.
