I am new to this forum, lookin for info and opinions. I will let you know where I am now: I have 2 montes, the first is a 1981 ls that is cloned into an SS (already done when I bought the car) and a 1987 SS T-top. When I started this project my plan was to build up the t-top car and use the 81 as a "doner". After I started gutting the 87 I soon found out that it was a true rust bucket. I knew the drivers floor pan was bad and that was ok, I could fix that. After getting the interior out i found that the rear seat buckets were gone, a hole in the floor pan behind the drivers seat, and when I pulled off the t-top trim there wasnt much of anything left there either. Along with the normal monte body rust, I decided to ditch that plan and swap the cars. Now I am restoring the 81 which has a straight rust free body. I bought it as a roller so all I had to do was put my goodies into it. I por 15ed the floor and put new carpet in, installed seats out of a 2001 grand prix, and moved all the 87 ss interior pieces over and installed them. I built the 402 and that is already in the car, and I just finished putting the th350 in last night. I will have tons of questions comming up soon, I plan on putting an electric fan setup, need to get some wheels and tires, and lots of other things. Here are some pics of what I have so far.
Pic of the two Montes
Couple of close ups of the 87
Here is the motor after rebuilding
Motor with headers
And a couple of pics of the interior
I am going to finish putting the headers on tonight and will add more pics soon.
