I just picked up a set of doors for my El Camino I shaved off the stock style 85 and back mirrors and the door lock holes. I shaved the mirrors in the thought process of going to the later style 86/87 mirrors. But I realized with no holes in the doors for mirrors I can drill for whatever mirrors I can find. Alright so the car is in the bodywork stage now. It has a shaved tailgate, roll pan with stock taillights and license plate in it. I also have the front spoiler/ air dam, and the fiberglass front bumpers. So what mirrors have you seen on a g body that looked real good? Should I stick to the 86/87 mirrors?

I shaved my doors and under the same understanding about the side mirrors, I wanted to put in power mirrors. I bought these off ebay, no idea what car they are from:

I haven't tested them yet, but I hope they work out.

Problem with all the aftermarket mirrors is that they are made to mount in the front quarter window areas. G-body mirrors mount on the door -- and these are harder to find (at least in a power mirror version).

Not sure if you want power mirrors, but if you do, I believe a good choice would be old RX7 or Corvette mirrors.

i will be doing a billet mirror swap onto my 85 elko...i will be using some mirrors made for a dune buggy and just fixin them up to work for a custom look

87 Monti Carlo mirrors, they look like the ones from a IROC Camaro

I wish I had known that earlier... I found out the mirrors I have are from an 84 Mazda RX7. I have the wiring harnesses and power mirror switch. It hasn't been hooked up yet but I'm hoping it works as planned... in a week or two I'll know for sure. If not, I will swap them out for the newer 87 Monte Carlo power mirrors with switch and all.
