As far as creature comforts and bells and whistles, that is true. Now as far as quality of materials, that is another story.

Newer GM interiors are an improvement over what they made in the 90's, but that was not hard to do. Newer GM interiors may have better ergonomics than G bodies, but that again is not saying much. The plastics used in G bodies, and the fabrics used in the better ones blow the new cars away. Plus, the switches, etc. are all better made and more robust in the 80's than now.

I will also say that if you want a good benchmark, you need to go to Germany, not the US, Korea, or Japan. VW interiors are much nicer looking than anything in a domestic car. Very nice feeling right up until the time it all falls apart... Ditto Mercedes Benz or BMW vs Cadillac or Lincoln. GM is still stuck in the time of fake wood, and poor stying on it's mainstream cars. They need to modernize things and get out of the 80's. I mean, C'mon...the Cobalt looks like a 1995 Cavalier!

you are so right, vw and bmws have way classier lines. no one sees what i mean when i point out the fact that every car company, fordlincolnmercury, gmsaturn, hyundai, kia are all ripping off the style introduced by volkswagen's passat years ago. from the chrome strip that wraps around the front and rear side windows to the chrome grill/bumper trim, and the overall shape of most newer sedans looks just like the passat. even the f@#%ing impala!!! the mercury milan even has a round grill badge like every vw. I'm not vw bias. i don't own one. I'm just very opinionated when it comes to originality in design. or maybe i'm crazy, but has any one else noticed?

Thats pretty sad that interiors today are worse than they were 20 years ago. Then again, my regal is the only car ive ever really driven that fits me.

i work at a gm dealership detailing new/used cars..i see everything new come in and its all either light beige/grey/or back, thats it , its nice but also very boring. the quality is crap i see brand new silverado's come in and already half the gear indicator in the cluster burnt out.

usually, light grey and tan for years and years.
the big 3 and their cookie cutter ways to save a buck.

trust me, being a mopar fan my whole life and since the mid 90's it was either gray or tan. for the most part still is. just different shades of each.

I agree that the Mercedes (at least the pre-2000s) had some of the best interiors, in terms of quality. But Cadillac has been using real wood trim since they went to the Northstar drivetrain. Now, the quality of the rest is still questionable. I shut in the door in a late model Eldorado, had the door panel rattle and the escutcheon pop off.
