Wasn’t really looking to do this swap anytime soon, but I know where an 85ish Cutlass is sitting close to my neighborhood that has had the engine out for a long time. If the transmission is still there, would it be a 200-4R? What would the stock rear end be? How would it hold up to 550 – 600 lb.s torque if I didn’t put slicks on it?

you won't need any mods, just a new rear. you can have an 8.5 set up for the g-body. they are very strong, especially with HP parts and are dime a dozen. i've been working on swapping a 95 caprice (b-body) rear into my monte. it requires some minor mods and parts but can be done relatively easily. or you can get a 12 bolt or ford 9in rear that's setup for G's from companies like currie or moser and many others.
the 8.5 will be the cheapiest and uses the least amount of power to drive, next is the 12 bolt, and then the ford 9. the 9 is only slightly stronger than the 12 bolt but has the advantage of being able to swap gears in a matter of minutes.
