I have a 83 olds cutlass 2 dr that i am about to start working on ... just needs some help with that kind of motor to go with... i want soemthing with a little bit of power but also want to be able to have my a/c and everything in it ..

Are you an Olds purist?? If not, Chevy small block all the way. By far the cheapest & easiest to get parts for.

I know every loser redneck puts a Chevy in G-Bodies. But, for the money spent it's a no brainer.

what motor is in there now?
knowing that would help in making a choice

Exactly right!

If you have...

3.8V6 (Buick engine) then use a Buick small block (300/340/350)

5.0L V8(olds engine) then use an Olds small block (330/350/403)

If you have a diesel, then you can also drop the olds small block right in!

Those were what was available from the factory; that doesn't mean it's still like that...

i put in a 350 chevy and am very happy with it. it is decently fast with only minor upgrades and doesnt empty out your bank account to upgrade. install was very simple and didnt take that much time really. im sure many people will disagree "keep and olds in a n olds" "if you want a sbc then buy a monte" all those kinds of things but the sbc really is the cheapest, easiest way. this should be a fairly long thread lol!

later

i had a 3.8 in mine...it was pretty easy swapping to an Olds motor...the hardest part was changing the frame brackets...going from a 3.8 to a 455 was a snap...although i had a 403 in there to begin with!! it all depends on how much you want to spend>? if it was on a tight budget the go chebby.
