I'm new here, and I figured since you have a build/project thread I would post up.

Its in my '79 Monte.
350SB .030 over
.125 dome pistons with moly rings
Every bolt is ARP
heads are summit cast iron heads http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-152123/ (funny how when I bought them they said 67cc instead of 72cc, guess it was misinformation from there supplier)
comp cams 12-238-2 cam (currently 4* advanced)
1.5 roller rockers
holley 80555C 650cfm carb
long tube headers
2.25 exhaust with flowtech afterburner mufflers, currently looking to upgrade slightly to 2.5"

Plans to come.

Upgrade fuel pump.(either high flow mechanical or going electrical)
Poly body bushings
New springs on each corner
I plan on doing a frame off and coating the frame.
Have to replace floor pan
And finally repaint.

My 3rd gen is NOT my favorite mc in my stable, and besides the 04 Mc seat/console swap and relocating/updating my side mirrors to 87 sport mirrors its been in the corner.loving yours plans and deciding to run"thee only" rim suitable for a Mc! I'm currently waiting for a 80 front clip for my 79 as I'm gonna do some custom bitness to it and I'll have all the 79 header/grill/lights,etc,and I'll hit you up and see if you still need any of the removed.

I haven't found another '79 around. Found a couple 78's but the '79 has alluded me. I've also seen a few 78's get crushed but they were completely rotted.

Most don't like the 3rd gen, but I do cause it maintains the more aggressive body curves.

If anyone can believe that this car spent 5 years sitting in my parents backyard just over grass. I got my eye on it as a tween and when I was 13 decided that I wanted it and swapped my gokart for it. I've had it for 20+years. It spent probably another 10 sitting back there after I blew thru 2 used motors, before I finally got around to doing a proper engine build. Its been on and off the road the last few years as I keep tinkering and working bugs out.

I'm working on one big detail with this thing. Topped out at 134mph and 4000rpms. Motor makes power to 6k and I hit that thru 1st and 2nd, but couldn't pull after that any higher. I'm hoping its just a fuel issue and that upgrading to a higher flow pump will rectify it.

I've talked with many shops, aftermarket manufactures, all point to something, one said fuel, one said TQ but mainly cause the getup and go is a bit doggy, another said exhaust, even one said cam.

I'm going with fuel here first. Probably will go thru and pull the timing cover and set the cam straight up again, didn't seem to make any difference. I feel that I could be a bit stiffled on the exhaust side as man it sure wakes up when just open headers. Put on the exhaust and mufflers and it just wasn't as peppy. Changed out the mufflers and seemed to help a little bit, but the 2.5" and a good smooth flow thru muffler like the FlowTech's and I will be better.

Well, I'm made my first large purchase for this thing in a long time.

Just ordered a trick kit for my holley carb(needs an update{holley 80555c}), the summit 2.5" header back exhaust pipe kit, new holley 110gal mechanical fuel pump, new tach(my summit one is not being consistant), and the summit fully welded mufflers(they look like flowtech afterburners).

Well Got things buttoned up below is a sound clip with the new pipes.

Any more progress? do you know where to get the lower body trim? Finding any 78 parts is a pain in the *ss.

Nothing new lately, through my back out in August, and have been scaling before the cold hits here to get my winter daily running again.

I currently don't have any line on trim pieces. I could only suggest some old junk yards.
