I PICKED UP MY 81 MONTE THE OLD OWNER MADE IT INTO A SS CLONE .THE 200R4 WAS WIRED WITH NO KIT JUST A POWER FROM THE STARTER.NOW MY SHOP IS 50KLMS AWAY I DONT WANT TO KILL MY TRANS WILL THIS WIRING MAKE IT THERE OR SHOULD I CRAWL UNDER IT IN THE COLD AND PUT A TCI KIT IN IT . I WANT THIS THING FOR A DAILY DRIVER .IM NOT TO GOOD WITH THIS OVERDRIVE STUFF

If it is wired directly to the starter, then it should have 12v to it all the time. If that's the case, it should be in od all the time. Does it stumble accelerating from a dead stop?

The wiring would be for the lock-up convertor, not overdrive. Chances are it locks up all the time in 3rd and 4th.

My bad. I meant lockup. Either way it should be ok to drive it to the shop. I have been driving mine without lockup for a while. My brake switch went bad in my 86 Cutty and therefore the trans was not getting the 12v for lockup and it drove fine. Gas mileage sucked, but still drove ok.
