my el camino is slow to start some times.
could this be tired engine? i was hoping its just the edelbrock (carb) and throttle response because of it.

my cutlass is the same but only when i dont start it for a whole day but if start it and drive next time will start right up with no pumpage

check to make sure your carb is sealed completely to the intake manifold I have seen were it will suck air in and cause a hard start issue also make sure you have good ground connections it could be a starter going bad

oops sorry.
i choose a poor choice of words. when i said "slow start" is what i was trying to express was that my acceleration is weak. this is my first 350 sbc and i expect much more power and take off.

Is it a stock 350 that came in your El Camino??? If it is then don't expect to much at all. The 350 in these cars were downgraded so much that it almost had the same HP as a 305. The rear gears are either 3.08 or 2.76 or something around there. So your acceleration will be slow. It might not be the car at all, but more of what you thought and what your car really is.

its a 75 motor, the gear ratio is like 3.23. i have an exhaust leak, could that be the problem? losing compression.

There's your problem right there.
Mid-late '70s 350s were pretty gutless, most in the 180hp range.

:| What was the outcome on your 350? I had a 74 Nova, Tuned it for a Calif smog inspt in 83, it turned into a P.O.S. Passed the test, and tuned it back. It was fine.
