So I was dumb enough to let my gf clean and organize my room, and now my cutlas's keys are missing. They're also my only set. How hard is it to change the ignition tumbler trunk and door locks on an 87 cutlass with no keys?

Easy 🙂

Rent a column collar tool from Autozone, etc. (don't forget the column lock! :lol🙂. You can remove the column lock without the key, just be careful of the rod that runs down to the ignition & high/low beam switches.
Here's an article outlining it (may not look identical but it's close):

For the doors and trunk cylinders, they're held in by little clips.

Don't replace the lock cylinders. Take the ignition lock cylinder and one door lock cylinder to a GM dealership. The lock cylinders have a four character code stamped on the outside. The dealer parts counter can punch a new key from the code.

Cool I'm glad its not too bad, it has 3 keys anyway so its a good excuse to just replace all the cylinders anyway. I'm not sure if it has a power trunk release or not.Its a project I just got and I haven't really had a chance to get to do anywork on it yet. If it doesn't what's the best way to get into the trunk?

thanks for posting this, you just reminded me i need to go get a spare trunk key lol

Thanks for rubbin it in. Lol I usually have 3 sets of keys for my car I haven't really gotten into this one enough to get that far yet.

A locksmith can come to you and make you a pair of keys for your ignition and locks for about $30. He can even make you one for your lock that doesn't match.

Or you can take which ever lock that doesn't match and your key you want it to accept to a lock smith and they can simply change the tumblers to make it work. About $10.

I didnt know that I was always under the impression it was a fortune to have a lock smith do that. Ill make some calls in the AM. Thanks
