so i am doing my daily craigslist search and i find a ad for a 442 being parted out, there is a picture of it and i can see that it has t tops and the 442 wheels so i decide to email him to see if it still has the rear end and how much, i am hoping the guy doesnt know what he has and can get it for 100 bucks so and i leave him my number. about 30 minutes after i get off work the guy calls, tells me he got a bunch of emails but i was the only to leave a phone number (thanks god!) and is telling me that he paid 1000 for the car and it had no title so i ask what he wanted for the rear and some other parts. he tells me he hasnt made a list of prices yet and to make a offer so i ask him if he wants to sell the whole car and if so how much, he says hell i would be happy to get a couple hundred out of it. hold on, a couple hundred?!?!? so i tell him i will be there tonight with 200 bucks and he says sold and sounded excited to get rid of it. so since i dont have a truck yet i went through hell to get a truck and had to drive a half hour to get it and go rent a car dolly. i go pick it up and it seems pretty solid but i didnt go into looking at it closly besides making sure the 8.5" rear was still there. so i get this car and i figure if nothing else it is a parts car and i was almost hopeing it was so that the regal would get a new rear end. i get the car home and it is dark but i look it over some, seems pretty clean but it was late so i go in. i get off work the next day so i have sunlight to really look into it, the car was full of dirt, branches, egg corns and other crap but i noticed that the t top metal was vary solid which i did not expect, i check the rockers which around here are always shot, they were solid! so i look at the under body, besides surface rust the floorboards, frame, body mounts and even the passenger side door are all solid! the guy kept the motor, told me it was special because it had a roller cam, like i dont know this? as far as i was concerned he was saving me from having a motor laying around! he left the transmission in it also, score! so you guys are all thinking what good is it without a title! this is good, we live in nebraska, the car came from iowa so it has to be drivable in order to be inspected to get a title since it came from out of state right, he had the title! he just never switched names and was too dumb to figure out that once it was running he could get it switched! wow so i decided that i am swapping the 355 out of my calais and selling it so i can ave a t top 442! i dont know if you guys had seen my posting for installing t tops into my non t top car, well this fixes that problem! oh yea, i figured out that the passenger side quarter from the door jambs back had been professionally replaced so it is flawless and it was done very well. bad news is the rear end is non posi?? the only rust that is any issue is on the drivers side wheel well. heres pics of what it looked like when i got it home, i will get some more of what it looks like after i cleaned it out.

Cool. Sounds like you've got a pretty big project ahead of you. Great find. Do I smell a build thread coming up??? 😀

wow great find, definately got away with one there

I would be concerned about the title issues before doing anything to it. It may end up being a parts car after all, so don't spend any money on fixing it until you get a title in your name.

the title shouldnt be a issue and if it is i think i have a vin plate and title or 2 still laying around here for parts cars, i will just swap them out if need be. i cant get a title until it runs and moves which may be this weekend. it may look like allot of work but i think ti will be easy. i have all but carpet, headliner and door panels for the interior, i have a motor to swap in and its most likely going for paint in the next couple weeks so there is good chance it will be complete with fresh paint, seals, locks (odd part to need but it had no keys) leather buckets that i already have and on 17" aluminum wheels that i already have.

so far i have come up with all of the parts i need, i kept a bumper cover off of a parts cutlass and i had all the lights, a chrome front bumper, i found a rear bumper for 20 bucks, i have tails, reverse lights, side markers, hood, shaved deck lid from my calais so i will just swap them. i am ordering a 350 (tikes!) dollar t top seal kit that will replace every seal on the car, i am going to use the seats i intended to use for my regal which are gray leather from a 90s bonniville, i am ordering carpet, i think i have a headliner board, it came with the t top plastics and chrome so i am covered there, i have a good drivers side door, passenger side one is still salvagable and i am planning to have it in for paint after the first of the year if all goes well. i am going with burgundy, i have always wanted a burgundy g body and i kept ending up with blue and since i have a blue regal and cutlass and cadillac i decided not to go with blue again. i am going to add the 442 stripes in gold later on and possibly paint the lower part of the body a metallic charcoal where there was silver before. i have a place lined up that will shoot my car with base/clear for 500 if i have the car ready for paint before i bring it in, i was going to shoot it myslf but paint alone would be 350 and then i have to do all the work to get my garage ready for painting and then clean up. it may not look like much now but give me some time and we will see what happens

500 for paint and clear? next time i need a paintjob i am going to have your people do it ha wow
