So, I've posted in other threads that my job has had me working with Honda on the Takata airbag recall. I was working in Antigua last week and since the project had recently reached a major milestone, Honda invited our team to come through California on out way home.
Honda maintains a small private museum collection in an unmarked small event center where they treated us to lunch, some Honda history, and let us wander around for awhile. Even though I'm the youngest guy on my team by about 15 years, it really made me feel old walking through a museum and pointing out several cars and motorcycles that I'd either owned or grew up with.
A couple concept cars. The silver one was a 1995 Acura CL-X that I think was kinda sexy. The production CL, not so much.
The Million Mile Joe car. Mechanic owned and reportedly with the original engine and transmission. Honda gave him a new Accord when he reached a million miles.
Race stuff.
On stands between the cars, you can see engines from the program. They varied from year to year depending on the class rules. Most were 2.6L V8s making 750-800 horsepower at 14-15,000 rpm.
This little Civic went 147mph at Talladega.
Early cars. My dad had a couple N600s like the red one in the middle when I was little. They had 2 cylinder air cooled engines. Contrary to what the rumor was, they weren't motorcycle engines.
