I have a motor mount problem.... I think.

I have some random unidentified parts and I'm trying to get an SBC back in my Gbody frame.

I have the clamshell uppers, are there different ones? are all of them the same? are they left and right?

Right now I can't get the engine to sit on the lower rubber mounts correctly. I suspect that the lower mounts are not the right ones. They look right, but I checked the part number it came up for 70s-80s chevy pickup.

When a SBC is stting on the correct mounts, how much pan clearance is there? right now If I could get the bolts to line up it looks like I would have 2.5" of clearance between the pan and crossmember. that seems like a lot. Is that right?

thanks,
George

I measured the original 79 Malibu 305 clam shells, I laid them flat on the work bench and they measured 2.5" from the work bench surface to the center of the hole.

I measured the engine mounts. I have a brand new set I ordered from GM some years ago, for an '84 Z28, part number 22188497. They measure just over an inch, 1.1" on the bench, and the original '79 305 mounts measure 1" when they were still bolted on the 79 Malibu's frame.
