My Quadrajet is a paper weight. What should I replace it with? I'm running basically stock 305. Mild cam, performer intake, long tube headers. I don't want a monster, but I don't want something that has to work too hard. I was thinking a 650. Thoughts? Holley? Edelbrock? It will be my daily driver. Thanks in advance guys.

Also I forgot to mention I would like a fairly straight forward bolt on, and something easy to tune.

#1406 600 cfm electric choke edelbrock works great. easy to tune, good on gas, good performance... need i say more?

Have a carb shop go through the Quadrajet if it is not a computer model. The car will like you better for it, and you don't have to use expensive TV cable adapters and geometry correctors or make a fuel line that way. Plus, by the time you are done, it will probably save you at least $200 compared to getting another carb. They are the best carb for a street SBC, hands down when they work right. The problem is when people mess with them that don't understand them, or the throttle shaft wears out it's bore in the base plate. That leads to erratic idle speed and a host of other problems. A good shop should be able to sort it for under $200 if it needs everything. If not, it could be as cheap as $100.

BTW, there is no such thing as a easy bolt on when it comes to a universal carburetor. Unless you get one of the old factory replacement carbs they used to offer in the 70's, nothing will ever just bolt on.

I'll agree there! Holley's are for people who want to have to tune their car every day of their lives. Quadrajets, AFB/Edelbrock's are for people who want to leave the hood closed most of the time.

x2 unless you love working on carbs.

I love the rivalry amongst carburetors. Holley fans hate q-jets, q-jet fans hate Holleys...

Holley's don't need to constantly be worked on, you just have to know what you're doing when you set it up. Keep an eye on it sure, but I've only had to tinker with my 4150 a few times since installing it...

No matter what carb you run, do yourself a favor and go to the book store and buy a book about how to tune and modify your carburetor. They're worth their weight in gold.

The Holley Street Avenger is an excellent carb in terms of out of the box performance and reliability, though if I was the one in your shoes, I'd probably just get the Q-Jet rebuilt.

X3 with the Edelbrock 600 cfm with the electric choke. I'm running a high perf. motor and this carb is perfect for my car. 650 cfm might be overkill for your car if your running a fairly stock set up.
