I own a 2009 Ford Expedition and I started having transmission problems and I got my engine light on. So I took it to auto zone and they said it was a 5 gear incorrect ratio. I thought by changing my fluid and my filter it would help. Well when I took the fluid out and I seen that the fluid was really black in color. And it also had a really bad smell to. I started the car today and I go to put the car in reverse it goes forward. How can I fix this problem?

Wow, Ford trannys are PITA when they go bad. You definitely hurt that trans and it's out of your hands now. Talk to some transmission shops. It's gonna be expensive and it'll be down a while if you don't have the cash to get it fixed. Check salvage yards also. Also try car-part.com for used trannys.
Good luck.

sounds like the trans got burnt. you can take it and see if they can fix it but rebuilding it is expensive. get salvage one and replace it

When I smelled the trans fluid. I new it was not good. I just bought the car like 2 1/2 months ago from this dealership

A Dealership??? It was bad when they had it, GUARANTEED. No transmission in good condition goes bad in under 3 months. It just doesn't happen. Look closely at your contracts. If you bought it "AS IS", then your screwed. But if not , they have to fix it. Also check your states "lemon law" policy.
I would raise hell even if its a "as is" policy because they screwed you. Either they are negligent because they never checked the fluid OR they new it was bad and changed the fluid trying to cover up the fact.
Get after them. Bring a couple of big angry looking friends when you visit them OR Bring a business card from a lawyer and leave it with them. If you don't get what you want, then call that lawyer. OR Do both!!!

Yes it was a dealership. A very nice one when I walked in there. Like they had to know it was bad and never cared about it. Like my trans fluid was black and i'm no mechanic. But I don't think it should be that color. So I want to just drop off the car and say sorry I can't afford it anymore so here you go and have a nice day. And what I would be worried about if they fixed it. Is that the engine goes out next or something else
