installing a t56 in a 84 el camino. just wondering if anyone could give me a idea how they installed the master cylinder through the fire wall. it seems i need to shorten the rod but not sure.have a 400 smallblock and a t56 out of an lt1 .just found this site, looks very helpful.

The master cylinder goes through the hole occupied by the cruise control wiring. Disconnectall the cruise control wiring and run it back into the interior of the car. Slide the master in from the engine side and mark the mounting holes. Remove clyinder and drill mounting holes. It's usually easier if you remove the brake booster from the firewall, which you'll probably have to do anyway to mount differant pedals unless it's already got the clutch pedal in anyway.

What pedals are you using?

I think your problem is that you are not using the correct pedals.

The F-body pedals do not work in the G-body's the way they are.

They have to be modified and fabbed up with the G-body firewall bracket.

Or you can use the stock G-body brake pedal and get a John B clutch pedal
