I have an 1987 Monte Carlo LS. Are there any after market speakers that will fit in the rear deck without the need to make major modifications? Ideally I would like to reuse the existing mounts and just pop new ones in with minimal changes.

If you did have to make modifications pictures would be nice.

run 6x9 speakers with 4x10 to 6x9 adapters like this..... no mods

I run the same set up. 4x10 to 6x9 adapters and 6x9 speakers can be found just about anywhere. Amazon, Ebay, etc,,, If you Google them, they will come up.
The 6x9s sound a million times better than the 4x10s IMO. You wont reget it.

I've heard from some people that when you use these adapters, they get in the way of the bars that are for the opening/closing. I've been reluctant to use them because of that.

They can depending on the size of the magnet. My KICKER 6x9s are sitting on( more like wedged I guess)my trunk bars and I have noticed zero change with opening and closing my trunk.

I just ordered the adapters, Kenwood 6 x 9, bass blockers for the front and an aux in adapter for my head unit from Amazon. All for the same price as the 4x10 Kenwoods that I had to return. The to speaker sets appear vary close on paper spec wise. I just hope they fit. I have done to many installs in the past and am tired of having to make allot of mods to add components to a system. I just want the tunes to play with reasonable quality. Time for the 28 year old stock speakers to go.

I used the Pioneer Part # TS-A4103 4x10. Very easy install had to bend the stock brackets by hand but they fit and sound great. The pioneers I got for the front are a little tall and I just have the front grills sticking up a little bit but they sound great.

I have the 3.5 Pioneers now installed in my 87 Monte Carlo. They just fit. I was going to try the Pioneers but found Amazon had the Kenwood 6x9 for allot less. I got everything I needed to complete what I wanted to do for less than the Pioneers.
