ok so heres the deal, just need a quick answer,
when i put the headers and glasspacks bolted to th headers i used the cheap crap gaskets that came with it which yes was mistake #1, but heres the question..
if theres enough of a exhuast leak from both header flange and collector flange mounting points..if theres enough leak will it cause no back pressure what so ever becuase,
ive gone over and over retightning them so stop the leak
but laltly when i drive it backfires like a s.o.a.b , it doesent hold a speed its just drives irradically, but when you all out throttle it, its fine like a race car with open headers i assume, no need for pressure..
so is this the problem, no back pressure so thats why its running so crappy now?need thats pressure and full seal?
any advice..

it's not the exhaust. you can have too much back pressure (plugged exhaust) but that would be worse at WOT. it sounds to me like a weird lean fuel or a timing issue. check the vacuum line to the distributor and make sure there are no cracks and that the ends have a good seal. if there is no vac signal to the dist it will screw up the timing, but at WOT the signal is low and doesn't make an adjustment.
