I am looking for Reverse lights for my 88 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. It would be nice if I could repair them, but I'm not sure if that is possible. Just the lenses are broken but the housing is fine. I saw a set on ebay but they weren't the correct lights for my year. I just need them to pass inspection!! Any help on how I can repair these or find new one would be great!

Here is a picture of the Left side, the right side is broken in pretty much the same spot also.

those lights you saw on ebay should work just fine. They don't look identical because they are not 'reproductions' theyre 'new and improved' and just dont happen to look the same. The people who sell that product on ebay dont know what they are talking about because theyre not automotive enthusiasts, theyre strictly about getting money. I think Those lights look ugly and I wouldnt leave them on my car, but hey maybe you can just return them after the inspection

One time in cali I found an abandoned cutlass w/ those ebay lights and I was going to take them off the car b/c mine were cracked, but when I realized they werent original equipment I left - didn't even get them for Free lol

You cannot graft the cracked part of your lense onto the housing, you have to replace the whole unit. It looks to me like you are stuck buying the ones off ebay until you can find some from someone parting a car. As a matter of fact I happen to know there were recently some at the parts yard near me if you want pm and I can try to get them for you if you really need them that badly

but

I'm a little suspicious of this so called inspection you're talking about. Are they really that strict? I saw a lot of my friends in Illinois mask problems like this with 'lense repair tape' and all they had to do was make sure it wasn't obvious and was symetrical. (even though the other light wasnt broke they used the lense repair masking tape there too) The guy came out gave the car a once over and didn't even notice. I also passed an inspection with my cutlass and the top half of my p-side tail light was missing, but I had substituted red tape from Napa over the top half and still passed. He marked it off on the clipboard saying 'you didn't get a perfect score because of this tail light' but said I still 'had enough points to get by' and said 'this is the correct temporary roadside repair to avoid a ticket from police, but they will pull you over if you dont replace the tail light eventually and they continue to see you driving with the tape weeks later' that was my exp

We do state inspections in N.C. & yes they are that strict. One inspector passed a vehicle he shouldn't have it was his 3rd offense & was taken to jail. They actually will sit outside of your shop with binoculars & watch you do inspections. They also stop in about 4 times a year to make sure all paper work is in line.

If you need some reverse lights we have one inexpensive that will get you thru. $40 for the set & shipping. They are not mint but will work.

Yeah, I think i might just pick up the incorrect set on ebay for $20, because I would really start to drive my car!!
