Ok well a few days ago my brother bought this piece of sh*t 1986 Pontiac fiero as his daily driver, crapped out 48 hours later. The main issue is that this puts BOTH of our jobs in jeopardy and i JUST moved to a new area.
The car is an 86 pontiac fiero with a 2.8L, the problem is that it went from throwing code 42 to not running at all. I know what code 42 is and i've helped him diagnose the module/coil , dizzy, ECM and wiring harness. But the problem is so hard to even explain because the car was a ****ing dumpster fire to begin with. At first it ran super lean, then once my brother put a new coil/module on it and fixed a MASSIVE vacuum leak it ran super rich. Base timing was at least within range.
The distributor the car came with looked brand new, so i pulled the cap to inspect and found that the magnetic pickup was shattered????
So now im just at a loss because even with the original distributor (found it in the trunk) it won't give any spark now. I was sure the pickup was why it wasn't giving spark but i guess not.
To make matters worse, when my brother first drove the car home a spark plug wire melted completely in half against the exhaust manifold, so that's why we replaced the module/coil. No prevail
I believe the ECM may be bad, so here's my question. Is there an older style HEI distributor with a vacuum advance that i can get online / local parts store that will bolt to this 1986 GM 2.8L ?????
