i have the 83 el camino wit a olds 307 in in how do i go about finding what car and year that motor came out?

I am pretty sure you are not going to be able to get the car it came from. There should be a stamping on the drivers side of the engine right below the head. That will give you the engine year and where it was made.

also you may be able to narrow it down better, if you still have the original carb

Call GM performance to find out where the VIN# is after checking the casting number and getting the year.
