I'm looking into building a drag car out of a monte or a grand national (only if it's a roller) and I'm here to get tips on what to look for and what would be a good setup on one of these cars to make about 850 - 950 horsepower

Look for a RUST FREE g body to start with. If you're from the Midwest, hop on a plane and drive one home. Most cars I see on Craiglist are rotted out. Spend some time on LS1tech.com to find out what it takes to build 950 hp. Lately, LS power is the popular choice for that power level.

Looking to buy it as cheap as possible but if it would mean going for a road trip I'll do it

For what you want to do I would recommend buying a car (roller) that is done. You can't build a car any cheaper, and something that will handle 850 + HP has to be well built.

If you want it to be cheap as possible, and I hate saying it, but a fox body mustang is hard to beat. Stuff in a turbo LS. Grand Nationals, even a roller, can be pricey.

The fox body is am option for me actually but I'd prefer to stick with a gm car and I'm just looking to buy the car as cheap as I can the rest it will be better for durability for a procharger or twin turbos on an ls motor

If I were planning to build and race a car with 850-950 HP" , I sure as hell wouldnt go "cheap as possible "on anything LOL.

The car is the only thing I'm going cheap on them after that I think I'll be fairly broke because I'll be getting parts

This is just a short list, all in New Mexico. If you want to rescue a Monte Carlo from a chain steering wheel and 13" spokes, there are many more to choose from. Bring your trailer.

Have you ever heard of "The G body twist"? In short, its what happens when too much HP gets put to one of these cars without a properly built up frame. There are many Youtube videos and threads on this subject if this is something you have never heard about.

I personally have seen some G bodies ( turboV6 and turboV8) that made up to and over 1000hp.They are well documented on youtube and in the Turbo Buick crowds. So you could possibly find more information from them on what type of frame modifications would be needed to put that type of power to the pavement in a G body car. I dont think a lot of guys around here are seeing those types of numbers.
Im not trying to discourage you, just offering an alternative source of information.
Welcome to the board.
