Just wondering what you guys think of some of the new cars that are starting to show up on the roads now, such as:

1. New Dodge Challenger
2. New Nissan GT-R
3. New Mitsubushi EVO X
3. New Subaru WRX/STi

I've seen one of the new Challenger SRT8's up close, and its pretty slick. Basically a shorter-wheelbase version of the Magnum/300/Charger platform. It looks, though, like its a damn sight larger all around than the old one. Maybe that's just an illusion or something. Just the impression I had of it. But its mean looking!

The GT-R we'll get here (well I won't! have you seen the price tag!) in the states is supposedly tamer than the JDM one, unless that's changed. I don't like the looks of the new restyle either. The old one looked more aggressive, the new has that same design all the new J-cars have.

Can't comment on the other two.

I've seen quite a few of the Challengers on the streets in the past month. IMHO I think it's the coolest new car in showrooms at the present. One here in town already has a nice exhaust to it (R/T version) and sounds completly mental driving through town! I love it.

As far as the GT-R, I haven't seen one in person yet, so I can't comment. A friend of mine in FL has been seeing quite a few of the running around down there and my friends in Vegas have seen a couple in town out there as well. I was in Vegas last month and was hoping to spot one, but no such luck (just the normal R8's, Lambos, and Bents).

The USDM version of the GT-R is 98% of what the JDM version is. Ours is a bit more heavy, but has better weight distribution according to Road and Track. Our suspension is adjusted to be more softer than the JDM counter part, but HP is supposed to be on the same plane. So ... close enough to work with ya know?

What really bugs me on the GT-R is the "sticker rape". It's only supposed to be a $60k - $80k car, but look on ebay .. it's a joke seeing most are over $100k. Good ol markup!

I've seen the STi's now. The new WRX is too blah and plain. The STi only comes in a hatch, and although I HATED it in the magazines, once I saw it in person I really like it. I wouldn't mind the wife having one as a kid wagon. Looks really mean in person to be honest. Like a pissed off darth vader.

The EVO X I've yet to see in person. I don't like them very much from what I've seen, but the same was true of the STi as well. So I'm sure if I could see one in person I might have a different oppinion. For the X as well as the STi (and probably in my best guess the GT-R) there will be several companies coming on to help the image out shortly.

The GTR is a technological marvel, capable of besting cars costing 50% more (sticker) on a road course (The 911 turbo was it's benchmark in development). I want one bad, but could never afford it. I also don't really care for the styling either. The real negative though is that the engine management supposedly is set up in such a way as to make any modification impossible. This makes me REALLY want one so that I can modify the heck out of it and prove Nissan wrong.

As for the Challenger, I love the look, but it is too big and heavy and uses oodles of gas so it is not very practical. It has a fairly good chassis underneath it, but it is ruined by a lack of tuning from the factory. I have seen it side by side with an original and swear the new one is bigger than the B body based original it is supposed to replicate. If it were based on a Mercedes C class chassis instead of the E class it uses that would make it a better car.

New WRX/STi Ugh. What a horrible looking car! It probably is a dream to drive hard, but just look at it. It looks like the male child of a a Camry and an Elantra who decided to have a sex change. Not quite manly, but not really feminine either. Also, it is harder to modify than before as it's new plastic intake manifold can't handle big boost, and it's engine management is hard to crack to make it function with more power.

EVO X Easily the best looking new car at any price! Other than the GTR, it is my favorite in this list. It looks like it is ready to go to war, and it has an incredible chassis. If past performance is in any way indicative of future results here, the all-new engine will be capable of incredible performance once people start playing with it. It is the first EVO to come with something other than a 4G63, and I hope Mitsubishi has continued the grand tradition of strength that engine represents.
