What's up guys. I've been checking out these forums for many years, just never signed up. Every car I've ever owned so far has been an Olds or Buick. I started with an 86 Olds Cutlass Ciera, 94 Buick Regal, and a 97 Olds Eighty Eight. I just can't get away from GM 3.8L engines. The worst one by far has been the 97. In the shop constantly. Every problem seems to be related to fuel delivery, pollution control, and the UIM. I'm done with newer cars. All the pollution control and electronics have become ridiculous. Newer cars are even worse. If you need a car to park itself or tell you when your tires are low, you shouldn't be driving! I can't stand the body style on anything less than 10 years old either. Every car looks the same these days. My old man was selling his 84 Cutlass, and I immediately took the for sale sign off. That's my kind of car. I always loved the G-Bodies. The car has over 140k miles, but runs well. It certainly needs work though. It's been garage kept it's whole life, but does have some rust, mostly on the doors. It's also equipped with the 3.8L V6 which everyone loves so much! I've had it a little while but haven't done much. I've been able to work on my own cars for the most part when I'm able to figure out the problem but nothing major- alternator, starter, brakes, fuel pumps, replaced a gas tank, etc. The 84 Cutlass I haven't touched yet for the most part. Just needed a tune-up and brakes basically. This year I'm tearing into it though. It handles pretty poorly, and doesn't exactly take off when I step on it. My goal this summer is to get it over 200hp and finally have it painted, so I'll be bugging everybody a lot!

welcome.. im new to.. i live in orland park il. g-body lovers are all over the chicago land area there isnt one day that goes by that i dont see one.. great city for the g-body community. i have an 85 cutlass (t-tops) in the shop right now getting a new paint job. im having the same exact problem with acceleration. hope a tune up will help but if not i plan on getting to the bottom of it asap

Thanks guys. Yeah, I see them around quite a bit around here. Good to know there's locals on here. Just got back from the Hawks game. Ugly!

I feel your pain avin. You know how it is driving around Chicago - basically have to go 0-60 in 3 seconds to avoid being run over, cutoff, or at a minimum swore at. A tune up won't improve horsepower all that much if you have that 3.8L like me, but I'm sure your car will thank you for it. It's really hard finding other people who even try to get this engine to perform. First thing they do is yank it. I can respect trying to keep it as original as possible though. I have a feeling the only way we'll get decent performance from this engine is by strapping a rocket to the top of the car though. Where did you get the paint job? I was looking to do the same this year, but there's a lot of work that needs to be done taking care of rust on the doors first. Did you do most of the prep work or have your paint guy take care of it all? Anyway, I'd love to see pics when it's finished.

Welcome aboard! I love your user name if your referring to the band and not the car  Getcha pull!

Hi guys, I'm from Joliet. There's a bunch of people on here from Byron area too.
You guys should try to make it out to the BOP meets that are coming up!

Welcome aboard!! Im also in the rockford area

Of coarse the user name is a reference to the band! RIP Dime...

I'm actually in the northwest burbs - arlington heights. I drive to the United Center constantly so I have no problem going into the city to have it painted. I really need doors before I go that far though. Bottom of the driver side is pretty bad. Rest of the car is decent though. There's some rust spots in other places but nothing too bad. I had a guy look at it and he wasn't sure the door could be saved. I'm not crazy about cutting half the door off either. Have a feeling it will just come back in a few years.
