Hey I've been on this site a couple times reading opinions and methods that I've found off google... But due to your websites security I figured I should just sign up. Anyways what I've got is my 1978 Monte Carlo 350csb. The motor is out of an 80's pick up and needs to get swapped out again for something more beefy. 383 or 454, I can't yet decide (OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS) mild performance upgrades on the motor.. Cam,intake man, fan, distributor, and fresh spark plug wires. I've got American racing outlaw wheels 15x8 with 275's in the rear and 255's up front. Looking to change my cars stance with the widest wheel and tire combo i can possibly go with this car without doing damage.lol Looking to get something like 10.5" or 11" in the rear? I need some help with backspacing and offsets! It's nice to be apart of this forum and I look forward to hearing from you all

Welcome to the board! I think with those rims the widest you could go in the rear would be 275s because they dont look deep enough for anything bigger. I have seen a Cutlass with 10 inch wide cragers with 295s on them but thats the widest I have ever seen. As far as the engine whats your budget and use/goal?

greetings from Ottawa!

@ -83montess- I'm actually looking to get rid of these wheels and upgrade to something wider with a big dish. I don't know too much about the offsets and what will fit though. I want to run 10.5" in the rear with 295 tires. Motor wise I'm looking to get something around $3000 motor and transmission if I can.the motor I've got is no good in my car, maybe just needs a tune but I need more power regardless. Does anyone know If the 454 Will drop right in? Are the mounting locations the same on the g body.

And thanks guys

Try using the search bar at the top of the screen for the big block swap. I know I have seen a thread about it before.

Welcome from Bramalea !! Whereabouts in the city are you? You will have some challenges making a driveline that will handle the power of a big block all for a $3k budget. The big block will fit, and will need some modification

What are your goals ? Street or Strip or Cruising with the occasional burnout ? Loads of great information here !

Great looking Monte BTW !

maybe this would work ?? I have stumbled accross this and although tempting I don't need another car. Maybe you could buy a whole car with a motor trans and spare rear and swap all the best pieces into your car then sell what's left ?

I'm bramalea and sandalwood. That's what I was thinking about the 295s but it looks like I have another inch to go to be flush with the rear quarter. And as far as drivetrain... This is a slow project for me and I don't expect to have it on the road even by next summer. So I'll dump 3k into motor and transmission then the rearend I'll have to figure that out depending on how much power I'm looking to make. The car will be a weekend cruiser but I want it to haul *ss in the back roads. I was told I had to beef up the frame rails.. I know depending on how much power but in hoping for 450-500 hp max when it's all said and done

Welcome here to GBF, from Rochester NY area. That's a sweet looking Monte you have there!! YOu could go 15x10 wheels with a 4" backspacing...I gotta tell you though, 3k won't get you much of a motor/transmission combo...YA never know though, maybe you'll get lucky and scoreone at that price. As far as the BBC swap goes, check out this link: http://www.maliburacing.com/bbc_conversion.htm
