Hi!
My name is Blake. I'm 21 and I currently live in Lethbridge, Alberta but in the next couple weeks I will be moving to Victoria, British Columbia.
I got my first car when I was 14. It was a 1985 Monte Carlo. I loved it then and I still love it now. When I got it, it didn't have a drive train so my dad and I found a 80s Chevy van and pulled the 305 out and plopped it in the Monte backed by the crappy turbo 200. Over the next couple years before I my license, I put on a Edelbrock Torker II intake and a Holley Street Avenger 570 with some cheap headers and some true dual exhaust with Magnaflow super 40s. I drove my Monte on and off with that setup up until this last summer when I was sick of getting destroyed by Skylines and STIs.
My dad is a licensed mechanic and an experienced engine builder that always has spare parts. (He also has an 87 Monte Carlo LS) So we took a look around the shop and found a 350 block that my dad had already had bored out .030 over. Then we found the rest of what we needed. We built the motor. 350 bored 0.030 over. Stock crank. Nice lobey can. Some ported and polished vortec heads, a new intake and the Holley carb and in she went. She runs great. So great so that I blew up my 4.10 gears with a mini spool a week before the big muscle car event in town. But luckily enough we had extra parts, so in went the 3.73 gear with another mini spool. That lasted two passes at the 100ft dash. My Monte ran a 3.209. Then my rearend packed it in again. I haven't had the time or money to fix it since.
Next year I will be getting a turbo 350 with a shift kit and then hopefully a 9" rearend. If that goes well then a 100 shot of NOS and then the next two years will consist building the bottom end of the motor and then twin turbos!
Enough about the Monte. On Friday I am picking up my new daily driver, a 78 Malibu sedan with 45000 original kms. Pretty good condition for $650! The plan is to daily it as I collect all the parts and information the drop the 5.3L LS in it that I picked up and enter super sleeper mode. It currently has a 305 with a 3 speed auto. Bone stock. But I have my old Torker II that may be getting a new home 😉
I desperately need a drivers tail light and pretty much as many interior pieces I can find for the Malibu. So if you're in Alberta or BC with some parts, hit me up!
Anyways, thanks for letting me join. I've been around g bodies for a long time as my dad raced them in stock cars before I could even drive. So I plan on sharing some information while gathering it.
