Hello everyone,
I bought my 1st monte when I was 15 yrs old. My uncle, father , and I restored the car and I drove it all throughout high school and into college. It was my summer hot rod and I loved it, but college got the best of me and I had to sell it to pay for my schooling. Years later I decided to buy another monte. I drove by a house of these older folks everyday on my way to school, work, and home that had a black 80's monte in the driveway. finally 1 day I saw it out back without plates. I stopped by and the old man said he wanted his wife to drive a newer smaller car, so he pulled the monte off the road. I ended buying the 84 monte, and its become a neverending project for me. I swear the car is cursed!! I've owned it for 8 years. I'll start fixing it up and always something breaks, or doesn't workout for me! When I 1st got the car I put a 383 stroker motor in it, rebuilt the trans, brakes, shocks, interior, and ran out of money. Then I had issues with the top end of the motor always snapping off rocker studs. I could go on all day with the number of issues I've hadm with the car, but I still love it!! So I finally want to tear it down and put a good piece together! Biggest thing I need is a durable posi rearend! Whats the best way to go? Should I put money into the stocker rear end, or buy a whole rearend assembly? Money is tight so I wann do things once, the right way, and not haft to worry about fixing it all the time like I have been doing! I look forward to checking out the forum, and picking the brains of all the knowlegable members, I will post pics of my car soon!

Good luck on the car! It seems like im always breaking something on my monte also so your not alone lol! As for rearend I would look at anything from a nice 8.5 or a 9 inch or a 12 bolt. Those would probly be the 3 most popular and affordable.
