New here and glad I found this site. I have been messing with G bodies since they were still on the new car lots and have always loved them. My favorites have always been 78-80 olds cutlasses. I had many different ones until around 2000 when I started getting into circle track racing and no longer had money to spend on street cars. Then last year I got the itch again and came across a very very clean 1980 with a 3.8, th350 with 46,000 original miles. I'm the 3rd owner. Only rust is on the rear bumper which is shot and a small dot under the driver side quarter window.

The 3.8 is the weakest engine I've ever seen... So It's getting a chevy 350. I would have gone with an olds but parts availability isn't what it used to be. In the past I've used olds 350's, 403's, 425's and 455's. Back then they were plentiful and reasonably priced. Now for an olds 455 local pick a parts want $800 if it won't fire to $1200 if it will.
So I'm cheaping out and going Chevy, besides I have two GM trucks with all the accessories for the front as well as starter. And luckily the bell housing is multifit.

This site has already provided me with invaluable info on the swap as far as motor mounts go and what parts fit etc.

Welcome to the site.

For now it's getting the Chevy 350 and once that's in I'll figure out what springs the front will need to keep ride height close to what it is now. Eventually it's going to get a 9in rear end and a torque converter to match. I'm still undecided on wheels and tires. I'm not really into the big wheel look and I personally still like the old school look of 14" or 15" wheels over 16" or bigger. Chances are I'll stick with the Olds rally wheels.
