picked up a 76 delta 88 yesterday, its got a 350 with casting number 395558 and the heads have a 8 on corner by front exhaust port, it even runs! my question is: i have a set of 5a heads from a 307 would they be better than the 8 and would they raise CR? going to get it out and tear down and inspect to see what shape it is in

yes it will raise compression rate some, but the 5a has girly ports.

5a heads will bring your compression up to about 9.2 when used with fel-pro head gaskets.. 5A heads also have the same port design as the later 77-80 350 engine.. now I dont know what you plan on doing with this engine but from idle to 4000 it will be a fun torquey street motor after that it will fall on its face..

ordered cam today, 292 with 480 lift, think i will use the 307 5a's just got to get to work on porting and open the smaller ports up some, going to try to use the 76 350 intake, getting short on money, just need to get it running
