New tires.

Looking for help, just purchased 17x8 and 17x9.5 American Racing Magnum 500 wheels. Looking for advice on tire sizes.
Those are good looking wheels, I have some in the boxes waiting until I get tires.

What car are they going on? The fronts would be good with a 245/45/17, and rear with a 275/40/17 if you have the clearance out back.
You could possibly get away with a 255/45 in the front.

Sadly, for 17 in wheels, tire selection isn't what it used to be. Not as bad as 16's but not great. 17 in is considered a "truck size", now, so you can find lots of agro tires, but not much in the way of performance tires.

In front, 245 or 255/40 or 45's, in back 275/40?, but that all depends on the BS, what model G-body you have and what mods you've done to the fender lip.

275/45 would be a great size for the rear of G-body, but good luck finding tires.in that size.

Was just reading one tire description in that size range, said they were high performance truck tries. I'm considering 17s on my El Camino. I really like the Hurst Dazzler 17X8 with 4.5 backspace. When I instal my 2000 Camaro disc brakes at all 4 corners, will that change the fitment? I can get all 4 wheels for $480.00 on sale now. Or should I wait till the brakes are installed?

12" brakes will push the front end about out about 3/8" per side. 4.5" BS in front will probably need inner fender lip mods to work with tires wider than 225. 5 - 5.25" BS would fit better in front. and you could run 1" wheel adapters in back to run the same size wheel/tire all around.

245s are the safe bet up front. 275s will be square on the rears. It is mounted section width that will get you in trouble.
