I have recently installed a built up 307 (probably making around 270 hp) into a 231 87 cutlass. I still have the original TH200 in the vehicle. Now I understand that that trans will not last forever under this power even if I maintain it, but I do have plans to change it over to a TH350. What will this involve me doing? Will I have to do away with the colum shift and the stock driveshaft?

I believe that the 2004r is a better transmission but I'm sure that some will disagree and state that the TH350 is beefier.

The 2004r has the overdrive and a better first gear.

Some years ago I did the TH2004r to TH350 conversion after smoking my 2004r and was really disappointed.

Just my $.02...

It takes some money, but the 200-4R can be an incredibly stout transmission.

Another benefit is that many (all ?) are dual bolt pattern, unlike the TH350. For the engine in question, you'll need a BOP TH350 or an adapter plate and spacers for the torque converter.

On the other hand, TH350s are a dime a dozen, and are plenty stout themselves. As for the install, I'm not positive if you'll be able to use the same crossmember and shift linkage or not.

just to avoid any confusion there's a th200 (3spd) which is a POS, and the 200-4r (4spd) which is a very good trans. sometimes it needs a little help, but so do ALL the other GM 4spd autos.
for the -4r you need the right crossmember, shift linkage if it's a floor shift and YOU MUST USE THE PROPER TV CABLE AND BRACKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, to clarify I have the 200 Metric trans and what I want to do is change it over to a TH350. I want to know what I will have to do about the column shifter, the crossmember, driveshaft, and the LT headers I have running off the 307. Is it an expensive job?

The crossmember and driveshaft will work. I am not positive, but I think you need to get the shifter rod that connects from the trans. to the column from a G body that came with that trans. I dont see any reason why you would need to change the headers.
