my name is Dawson and I currently have a 95 GMC sierra that is lowered. And I am looking at an 86 grand prix with a 5.0 in it. The car looks pretty clean. It has been setting for about 3 years. The car looks rust free. What are some problem rust areas on these cars that I should look for?

Welcome aboard! Check out the frame rails, the trunk, ALL floorpans, doors and quarters.

thanks for the info. i will look at those areas. the car needs new tires from setting, but the interior looks new. also the car has pontiac rally wheels on it. do you think 700$ is too much?

Does it run & drive? Where I'm at... A g body gets $400 just for scrap...so for another $300, if it starts, drives, & shifts gears, it's probably worth $700... Check all the above listed areas for rust, I'd expect o fi d some surface rust, but if it's not all rotted out & has a clean interior....hard to go wrong in my book

yes the car runs. we put a battery in the car and it started up and ran smooth with no lifter taps or weird noise, the car could not be driven cause all 4 tires was flat.but before i buy he car i will air them up or put some different wheels and tires on it, i looked under the car and could not see any rust

Along with what has been already posted for the rust hunt, look at the bottom of the doors on the inside. Also look under the rear wheel well. You should be able to get a good look at the exposed frame there and watch for bubbles around and chrome body moulding. The long pieces along the bottom of the car are notorious hiding spots for rust.
As for the price, I paid that for my DD and it needs kimo for all the cancer it has. I say go get it. My 2c

I just sold my Dodge Dakota,in getting closer and closer to owning a g body. I'm going to give the car another look on Tuesday. Hopefully I will buy it. 🙂

I went and put a down-payment ob the grand prix. I should have the car by the end of next week

good luck with the GP. cant go wrong with $700 for a gbody in minimum rust condition.

Also nice sierra u have. i have a 96 350 ext cab 1500. my 1st truck and love it!

see ya round.
