Hi! My dad recently picked up a semi-project car. He found an 81 Monte that has been made into a drag car. He got it from a guy in Milwaukee, so some one here may recognize it. It's got a 350(guy kept the 496), Turbo 350 trans, B&M shifter, 16" rear tires, 4 or 6" fronts, Magnaflow exhaust, and a Ford 9" rear end that's either a 4.11 or 4.56. Dad knows how to figure it out. 😛 We do plan to swap that 350 out for a bigger small block or a big block soon. It's been to a dyno so we could see what that 350 is doing and it's a lackluster. Best run of 3 has it at 208 HP and 245 ft/lb torque. Definitely not enough to spin the tires. It's definitely a fun car to cruise in! The Magnaflows make it sound like its more than a 350.

One thing we have been looking for is a radio cover that also covers the vinyl area that goes around the ac/radio. Does the SS plate do that? There's an edge where the vinyl has chipped away and has been crudely covered.

My daily driver/mini project is my 01 Park Avenue Ultra. It's got the ZZP PCM, Autolite Copper 104 plugs, gutted airbox, and I have the 3.4" SC pulley on hand. Just need to take time and finally do it.

It's nice to live in the Land of the Free (from emissions). Sweet ride, already painted clean under the hood! Start hunting for an 8.1L!

Cool man. If you don't want that small block a certain person with a reddish purple Regal will take it off your hands, free of charge. 😛

Nice car!
So whats better a big small block or a small big block? lol

Welcome Mr. Monte; I take it that you're a fellow cheese head? So now the question, mouse or rat? Well if want to take the advice of a LMA (Late Middle Aged) guy & I've been around the sun 70 times now. You will want to save up for an Ls, look for a 6.0L or a 6.2L. It will carry you into the future much better than an ol'e Chevy, big or small. I speak from years of experience, having owned a fine L-78 Rat back in the day, & I did loved it as it would out Rev every thing else on the street, 7000 off the show room floor. Later putting a second edition L-88 cam in it, I was shifting at 7200-7300 RPM. Then the bad years came (1971-2003) & I switched to a 406 SB Chevy, yes they were the most bang for the buck 10-20 years ago. I've used up two of them & still buzz'in my 3rd one. I keep it under 6500 R's & hope that it will out last me? But if I was a young'in, I wouldn't consider anything but a Ls, they are the future. My $.03 cents, Ol'e Bob
Ps: Pictures of the past, present & future.

Welcome to the forum. That's a nice looking Monte Carlo. Do you and your dad plan on keeping the car drag oriented or are you wanting to make it handle turns too?

Vanrah, we are in Indiana. He has been looking on eBay at engines, a lot. The car is going to primarily be a show car that can run down the track. We have been cautious on corners due to the skinny tires. Wider fronts are on the to do list.
