In 1983, I bought an 81 Malibu cop car from the Broward County Sheriffs Dept. for my wife to drive,
She was (and still is) hard on cars. To her, they are nothing but something to get her from 1 place to the other.
Her idea of maintanence is " I changed the oil last year, do I have to change it this year??"
I was working in Miami at the time and drove it for 2 months before giving it to her.
Since the S.O. still had a bunch of Malibus in their fleet, people always gave me a wide berth.

After we got a divorce, I got the car back and it became my 3rd car.
At 155k miles, the timing chain slipped one day. The stock 350 went to the junkyard, a 69 .513 Crower cammed 4 bolt 350 and 'firmed up' 350 turbo and 87 SS 3.73 posi rear went in. What a change !!
I scored some 69-72 SS wheels at a local junkyard and got a hold of some 235/70 x 15 Goodyear Eagles which really filled the wheelwells.
In 2001 I parked it temporarily as I had acquired a Datsun 260Z from a friend that had started a V8 conversion. My thoughts were to take my 350, a 700R4 and a 280 ZX posi and have a fun ride. However, my friend had sellers remorse and back it went. The thing has sat since then.

I have always been a fan of cop cars since forever, esp since my dad ordered a 1968 Dodge Coronet cop car.

I will be parting parting the Malibu out as sitting has not done it well. The A posts as well as the entire rear floor pan are full of rust as well a the bottom of all 4 doors and the trunk lid.

And no, the drivetrain and the wheels are sold.

Welcome!

Those rubber floor mats wreak havoc on floor boards if the car starts to leak...

I know how you feel about everybody in traffic giving you some extra room...

My grandma bought it new and I added the 9C1 wheels, but it just so happens to be the same color that the MN Highway Patrol uses on their cars...
Imagine that sitting in the median when I was trying to make the U-turn to pull into work.
Needless to say I had to wait a while since all the speeders would slow way down, and it was impossible to judge their speed...

Blake,
Thanks for the welcome.
As far as the rust and the mats go, I blame the ex for not constantly checking to make sure the windows were up.
As far a Impalas go, this is my big bosses 96 SS. I am the keeper of his fleet of cars and this is my favorite..
