I had my 81 Monte listed on Craigslist, and was looking for a new project. I hadn't realized I already had the perfect project until running into GBFs today.

As I read a few posts and seeing everyone's rides, I was reinspired and decided to cancel my craigslist ad.

Thanks to GBFs and members for the inspiration and all the new ideas -- I can't wait to get started on the new transformation!

Welcome, welcome. Looks like a nice straight base for anything you'd like to do.
What sort of plans do you have for it?

Thanks!

Not quite sure exactly what I want to do, but I do know I want bigger wheels. I really appreciate what 1983malibuwagon did to his ride...this is definitely an option.

the other for sure item on the list is more power. I need to read some of the tech forums to see if anyone has increased horsepower on a V6 and remain smog legal.

Nice ride to begin with. Working on cars isnt hard at all you just need the drive, glad GBF members motivated you into hooking up your vehicle. G body cars are sweet to drive.

Welcome from Toronto, Canada.
Nice looking Monte!

Welcome. These are the easiest project cars by far. I was surprised to see a different cali guy on here a few months back trying to get out of his G project saying he wanted to get a smaller honda / nissan project that would be 'easier to work on' because he 'wasnt mechanically inclined'. I said, if you're not mechanically inclined enough to figure out this platform, take the opportunity to become inclined b/c this is way easier than something like that to work on; but we can't convert everybody. It's good you found this place and realized how adaptable this platform really is instead of just trying to use it to be lazy like that guy and get rid of the car for some unsafe soapbox datsun with an ebay turbo. Look up the 4.1L v6 manifold; it is about the only v6 upgrade that you can utilize to gain a few horsepower smog-legal in CA. Besides that, you could also look into acquiring a newer 3800 series II motor from mid 90s Camaro / Firebird. Some other 3800 motors can be mounted but require 'trans dapt' kits if they came in a front wheel drive gm.
