I was wondering what the nitrous laws are in South Carolina I couldn't find any is it illegal to have nitrous in general or if you have the bottle off

It's only illegal if you get caught - lol. Personally I've never heard of any laws banning nitrous setups, but that doesn't mean much.

I lived in SC for five years and I would say they don't care.

As long as you don't purge it at a light near a cop, you should have nothing to worry about.

Even then, most SC cops would laugh and give you the thumbs up. There is nothing in N2O that isn't in air. The illegality would come from possessing the medical grade stuff without a license.

Check with your insurance company as some insurance companies ban it from being in vehicle.

Okay, now your talking plum crazy! (LOL)

When asked is it modified? Well, we bought it without an engine, trans or interior, soooo, 'No, we just added the appropriately required components Mr. insurance man'. What's that thing under the hood next to the motor? 'Turbo, I believe some of these were built with turbo's Mr. insurance man.'

OP, all kidding aside, if you ever intend to submit an insurance claim when you have a nitrous explosion, whether your fault or not, then you might want to mention it to Mr. insurance man.

Nitrous is 50 state illegal on any public highway without a permit.

* Highway is considered any public road/street.

federal law not state.

When l changed insurance companies, the new insurance company(Haggerty Classic Car) wanted to take picture of the car. So they came and l asked why they need all the pictures, there response was they won't insure a car with nitrous or a fuel cell.
