Just put some new brushes into my alternator, when reinstalling it there was a small arc somehow. I'm not even sure how it happened at all because all my wires were tucked out of the way. After installing the alternator my car has power to the lights but when I try to turn the key theres nothing, no clicking, nothing like there is no power going to the starter. Lights still work, radio doesn't, and my keyless entry/alarm doesn't work. The starter is brand new so I doubt it spontaneously broke, and the alternator isn't the problem because the car would still start I think. My main ground from engine to firewall was disconnected it turned out which is probably what was causing my electrical gremlins I reconnected it but no luck. I checked most of my fuses except the really hard to get ones but they all seem to be ok. I'm guessing I blew some sort of fuse or wire somewhere in the car? Any help would be appreciated as I need to get back to work on Monday. The starter is under warranty but I don't think Ill be able to get it in until at least Tuesday.

Re: No power to starter/radio after arc installing alternato

You probably blew one of the fuse links that come from the battery post on the starter. It is hard to tell sometimes, the link can burn in two inside the insulation. Pull on each one of them seperatly if it stretches like a rubber band it is bad. DO NOT just replace it with regular wire, go and get a fusible link and install it. Soldering it in would be the best way, but if you cant a good crimp on splice will work.

I figured as much, I just had them replaced when I got the starter which kind of sucks but oh well, I guess ill have to try it myself this time. Thanks
