Whats up everyone I have a 86 monte ss with a 40 over 350 dome pistons,dart pro 1 heads,roller cam,and host of other goodies.
Just put the pypes header back 3 inch exhaust kit all the way out the
back.I also have a 85 442 that is killed on the driver side quater
panel.It has 442 stickers on it and 8th digit is a 9 on the vin.Going tomorrow to look at another 442 t-top car black and silver with gold
stripe guy has no clue to how much its worth wants $200 for it.How
can i tell the differance in the 7.5 rear and the 8.5 rear by just looking
under the car.Thanks thats it for now. 🙂

Welcome!

The difference between the 7.5 and the 8.5 is that on the bottom of the center section of the axle.
The 7.5 has what look like two small fangs.
The 8.5 has a more squared off looking tab on the housing.

Another good way to check is the RPO label under the trunk lid.
A 442 will have G87 listed for the 8.5" rear, and GT4 for the 3.73 gear ratio.
A regular 7.5" rear is listed as G89.
